Let's Put Anti-Racism into Action
Anti-racism is a commitment to the dismantling of conditioned racism in ourselves, our families, and our communities. Much like other recovery groups, an anti-racism working group provides a space for discussions and experiences that encourage growth and change. We will begin with racial socialization work, and after that, each meeting will include a reading or video and a discussion. The anti-racism working group will be a place for conversations rooted in humility and purpose. Our work together will help us with individual and shared grief related to the presence of racism and racial violence in ourselves, our families, our communities, and our country - both historically and contemporarily. We will embrace the idea that anti-racism is a part of wellness. We will acknowledge and face the process of healing from generations of pain related to race and racism in the United States. Working together with others helps us practice being in the conversation that has been made taboo, scary, and inaccessible due to strife. While it is common for this work to bring up discomfort, that discomfort can be transformed with intentional engagement, education, creativity, and circulation.
If you have been wanting to engage more in anti-racism work and haven't known where to start, this group would be a great fit. If you have engaged in anti-racism work and are looking to be a part of a community committed to taking the work further, this group would be a match. If you are curious about anti-racism and want to understand more about things like systemic racism, white supremacy, and anti-racist identity development, this group is for you.
This group is best suited for people who see or are beginning to see the problem of racism. The anti-racism working group will encourage growth and commitment and inspire engagement in transformation. Our purpose is not to attack those of us humans who don't yet see the problem, but rather focus on the growth that can be made by working with others who want to be part of the solution.
Let's intentionally and productively join the national conversation about race that began with our country's inception!
